On a peaceful spring morning in March of 2003, Tom Higgins was on his way to work. Mr. Higgins was traveling on State Road 5 at NE 22nd Avenue in Boynton Beach when suddenly and without warning his vehicle was violently struck in the rear by a minivan traveling at nearly 60 mph it was estimated in the accident investigation. The van was driven by Krystal Shields.

On March 9, 2005, Sebastian and Ian, ages 11 and 9, watched in horror as their mother, Dodi Kelley, drowned before their eyes outside the Waste Management facility in Okeechobee, Florida. Dodi Kelley's accident and death was as a direct result of Waste Management ignoring a public hazard it created and had known about for years.

Ford/TRW settled a seatbelt case involving a Ford F250 pickup truck. Dodi Kelley was killed when her vehicle hydroplaned after hitting a puddle of water and rolled over into a drainage ditch. Water from the ditch began to fill the truck's passenger compartment. Mrs. Kelley, with her two young sons in the vehicle looking on, could not release her seatbelt. Mrs. Kelley drowned as her sons watched helplessly. The case settled for a confidential amount.

On September 29, 2004, Humberto A. Orduna, after having a few beers, drove his vehicle off the road in a Port St. Lucie mobile home park within Martin County, Florida, and killed 21 month old Francisco Rivera, Jr. in front of his parents, Francisco Rivera Sr. and Elvia Rivera.

Eleven-year-old Garrit Shea was on a Global Travel Marketing d/b/a The Africa Adventure Company's safari with his mother. Before the trip his mother signed a contract releasing Africa Adventure from liability. Young Garrit was killed on the safari. Asleep in a tent in Botswana, he was dragged by hyenas and decapitated.
